Os Doze Apóstolos eram homens pelas razões a seguir:
1 – Porque Cristo quis. Como vemos no versículo do início deste artigo Cristo escolheu e nomeou cada um por intermédio de sua vontade soberana e suprema como Deus;
2 – Símbolo das Doze Tribos de Israel. Os apóstolos seriam também símbolo das doze tribos de Israel. Veja o que diz em Mateus 19:28 – “Em verdade vos digo que vós, os que me seguistes, quando na regeneração o Filho do homem se assentar no trono da sua glória, também vos assentareis sobre doze tronos, para julgar as doze tribos de Israel.”;
3 – Para o Cumprimento do Propósito. Na cultura judaica do 1º século, o testemunho público e a liderança formal eram funções masculinas. Até mesmo o serviço no templo estava restrito aos homens da linhagem sacerdotal (Levítico 8). A mulher não tinha credibilidade naquela cultura daquele tempo.
Se alguma mulher fosse escolhida para a posição de Apóstolo, por conta da sociedade e da cultura da época, ela seria ridicularizada, seu testemunho sequer seria considerado, ela seria perseguida e morta (como os Apóstolos foram).

Why Were the 12 Apostles Men?
“And he went up on the mountain and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him. He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach.” – Mark 3:13-14
The Twelve Apostles were men for the following reasons:
1 – Because Christ willed it. As we see in the verse at the beginning of this article, Christ chose and appointed each one by His sovereign and supreme will as God.
2 – Symbol of the Twelve Tribes of Israel. The apostles were also meant to be symbols of the twelve tribes of Israel. See what it says in Matthew 19:28: “Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”
3 – For the fulfillment of the purpose. In the Jewish culture of the 1st century, public testimony and formal leadership were male functions. Even service in the temple was restricted to men of the priestly line (Leviticus 8). Women did not have credibility in that culture at that time.
If a woman had been chosen for the position of Apostle, because of the society and culture of that time, she would have been ridiculed, her testimony would not have been considered, and she would have been persecuted and killed (just as the Apostles were).
