Texto Base: Apocalipse 13:16-18:
“E faz que a todos, pequenos e grandes, ricos e pobres, livres e servos, lhes seja posto um sinal na sua mão direita, ou nas suas testas, Para que ninguém possa comprar ou vender, senão aquele que tiver o sinal, ou o nome da besta, ou o número do seu nome. Aqui há sabedoria. Aquele que tem entendimento, calcule o número da besta; porque é o número de um homem, e o seu número é seiscentos e sessenta e seis (666).“
O Livro e o Autor
A passagem citada acima consta no livro de Apocalipse (último livro da bíblia) o qual teve como seu autor o Apóstolo João, tendo sido escrito por volta do ano 94 D.C. (no ano 14º do reinado de Domiciano), na ilha de Patmos para aonde João foi exilado pelo imperador Romano Domiciano.
O Imperador e a Ilha do Exílio
Tito Flávio Domiciano – Imperador Romano – requereu para si (como era de costume e “direito” de alguns imperadores na época) o culto imperial que permitia que o imperador fosse adorado como um deus. O Cristianismo que pregava um único e Todo Poderoso Deus era uma pedra no sapato de Domiciano uma vez que não reconhecia seu título de “divino”. Neste sentido, muitos cristãos foram perseguidos e mortos. João foi exilado para a ilha de Patmos que ficava a 55km da Grécia, a leste do mar Egeu, com o objetivo de que o evangelho morresse, uma vez que João ficaria incomunicável e o evangelho então não mais seria propagado. Sabemos que esta estratégia de Domiciano não deu certo.

What is the Mark of the Beast Quoted in Revelation? - Part 01
We read in the Bible in Revelation 13:16
“And make everyone, small and large, rich and poor, free and servant, to be put a sign on their right hand, or on their foreheads,”
Base Text: Revelation 13: 16-18:
“And cause everyone, small and large, rich and poor, free and servant, to be put a sign on their right hand, or on their foreheads, so that no one can buy or sell, except the one with the sign, or the name of the beast, or the number of its name. There is wisdom here. He who has understanding, calculate the number of the beast; because it’s a man’s number, and his number is six hundred and sixty-six (666). “
The Book and the Author
The passage quoted above appears in the book of Revelation (the last book of the bible) which had its author the Apostle John, having been written around 94 AD (in the 14th year of Domitian’s reign), on the island of Patmos where John was exiled by the Roman emperor Domitian.
The Emperor and the Island of Exile
Tito Flávio Domiciano – Roman Emperor – requested for himself (as was the custom and “right” of some emperors at the time) the imperial cult that allowed the emperor to be worshiped as a god. Christianity that preached one and Almighty God was a stumbling block for Domitian since he did not recognize his title of “divine”. In this regard, many Christians were persecuted and killed. John was exiled to the island of Patmos, 55km from Greece, east of the Aegean Sea, with the aim that the gospel would die, since John would be incommunicado and the gospel would then no longer be propagated. We know that Domitian’s strategy did not work.

tiětuō·fú lā wéi ào·duōmǐqí yà nuò (TitoFlávioDomiciano)-luómǎ huángdì-yāoqiú zìjǐ (zhè shì dāngshí yīxiē huángdì de xísú hé “quánlì”) jìnxíng dìguó lǐbài, shǐ huángdì kěyǐ bèi chóngbài wèi shén. Chuánjiào yīgèrén hé quánnéng de shàngdì de jīdūjiào zài duō mǐ tí yà shì bànjiǎoshí, yīnwèi tā bùchéngrèn qí “shén” de tóuxián. Zài zhè fāngmiàn, xǔduō jīdū tú zāo dào pòhài hé shāhài. Yuēhàn bèi liúfàng dào ài qínhǎi yǐ dōng jù xīlà 55 gōnglǐ de bá mó dǎo, mùdì shì shǐ fúyīn sǐ diào, yīnwèi yuēhàn jiāng yǔ shì géjué bìng bù zài chuánbò fúyīn. Wǒmen zhīdào Domitian de cèlüè xíng bùtōng.
