A igreja pode e deve influenciar em todas as áreas da sociedade, mas faz isso através da pregação do evangelho. Cristo em momento nenhum incentivou ou determinou que os discípulos se envolvessem com política ou com políticos. Veja o que diz em 2ª Timóteo 4:2 “Prega a palavra, insta a tempo e fora de tempo…”
Deus usa os políticos e governantes conforme Sua Soberana Vontade. Veja o que diz em Provérbios 21:1 “Como ribeiros de águas é o coração do rei na mão do Senhor; este, segundo o seu querer, o inclina.”. No antigo testamento os poucos que exerceram cargos públicos foram direcionados por Deus em momentos pontuais da história para preservar o povo de Deus como vemos na história de José no Egito e Daniel na Babilônia.
A pregação do evangelho é luz em meio as trevas. Cristo é a verdade e a luz que devemos levar em todos os níveis da sociedade, mas não devemos nos misturar com as trevas enquanto levamos a luz. Veja o que diz em Efésios 5:11 “E não comuniqueis com as obras infrutuosas das trevas, mas antes condenai-as. Porque o que eles fazem em oculto até dizê-lo é vergonhoso.”.

Can the Church Influence Politics?
“Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers; for what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?” – 2 Corinthians 6:14
The church can and should influence every area of society, but it does so through the preaching of the gospel. Christ never encouraged or commanded His disciples to get involved with politics or politicians. See what 2 Timothy 4:2 says: “Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season…”
God uses politicians and rulers according to His Sovereign Will. Proverbs 21:1 says: “The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, like the rivers of water; He turns it wherever He wishes.” In the Old Testament, the few who held public office were directed by God in specific historical moments to preserve His people, as seen in the stories of Joseph in Egypt and Daniel in Babylon.
The preaching of the gospel is light in the midst of darkness. Christ is the truth and the light we must bring to all levels of society, but we must not mix with darkness while carrying the light. See Ephesians 5:11: “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret.”
