“Confie no Senhor de todo o seu coração e não se apoie em seu próprio entendimento;”. – Provérbios 3:5
Ao ler a Bíblia temos contato com a Palavra de Deus que é uma Palavra Viva. Isto significa dizer que o conteúdo dela serve para resolver toda e qualquer questão em qualquer tempo e para qualquer pessoa. Hebreus 4:12 “… a palavra de Deus é viva e eficaz, … penetra até à divisão da alma e do espírito, … é apta para discernir os pensamentos e intenções do coração.”.
A Bíblia é um livro de fé e não de razão e ciência. Veja os versículos abaixo:
- 2ª Coríntios 5:7 “Porque vivemos por fé, e não pelo que vemos”;
- Hebreus 11:1 “Ora, a fé é a certeza daquilo que esperamos e a prova das coisas que não vemos”;
O Cristão não deve usar Platão e Aristóteles ou lógica e racionalidade para dar razão a fé que vive dentro de si. Veja o que diz em 1ª Pedro 3:15 “… Estejam sempre preparados para responder a qualquer que lhes pedir a razão da esperança que há em vocês.”.
Esta preparação não vem de estudos filosóficos ou de pesquisas científicas. O conhecimento necessário vem da leitura da bíblia, das experiências que temos com Deus e de nosso relacionamento com o Senhor. Veja o que diz em Mateus 10:19 e 20 “… quando os prenderem, não se preocupem quanto ao que dizer, ou como dizer. Naquela hora lhes será dado o que dizer, pois não serão vocês que estarão falando, mas o Espírito do Pai de vocês falará por intermédio de vocês.”.
O conhecimento da verdade vem de Deus:
- Provérbios 2:6 “Porque o Senhor dá a sabedoria, e da sua boca procedem o conhecimento e o entendimento.”;
- Tiago 1:5 “Se algum de vós tem falta de sabedoria, peça-a a Deus, que a concede generosamente e sem censura, e lhe será dada.”;
- Lucas 21:15 “Pois eu lhes darei palavras e sabedoria que nenhum dos seus adversários poderá resistir ou contradizer.”.
Entenda que você é apenas uma ferramenta para levar a verdade da Palavra de Deus. O poder de convencer não vem de você, mas de Deus. João 16:7 e 8 “… o Consolador … E, quando ele vier, convencerá o mundo do pecado, e da justiça e do juízo.”.
Não precisa acumular conhecimento secular ou ser um excelente debatedor. Isso só serve para elevar seu ego e se sentir superior aos outros. Veja o que o Apóstolo Paulo diz sobre todo o conhecimento que ele acumulou durante a vida: Filipenses 3:8 e 9 “… tenho também por perda todas as coisas, pela excelência do conhecimento de Cristo Jesus, … e as considero como escória, para que possa ganhar a Cristo. … não tendo a minha justiça que vem da lei, mas a que vem pela fé em Cristo, …”.
Não estou dizendo para você ignorar o ensino secular, mas que deve considerar o conhecimento acerca de Deus infinitamente superior a qualquer outra coisa.
Vivemos em um mundo de trevas, mas podemos acender uma luz. Quanto mais perto da luz, mais longe das trevas. Portanto, acenda a luz de Cristo!

Do I Need to Read Philosophical Books to Defend the Faith?
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;”. – Proverbs 3:5

Knowledge of the truth comes from God: Proverbs 2:6 “For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.”; James 1:5 “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”; Luke 21:15 “For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.”.
Understand that you are just a tool to bring the truth of God’s Word. The power to convince does not come from you, but from God. John 16:7 and 8 “…the Counselor … And when he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment.”.
You do not need to accumulate secular knowledge or be an excellent debater. This only serves to raise your ego and make you feel superior to others. See what the Apostle Paul says about all the knowledge he accumulated during his life: Philippians 3:8 and 9 “…I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus … I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ … not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ …”.
I am not telling you to ignore secular teaching, but that you should consider the knowledge about God infinitely superior to anything else.
We live in a world of darkness, but we can light a candle. The closer to the light, the further from the darkness. Therefore, light the light of Christ!
