Should We Consider Animals on the Same Level as Human Beings?
“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” – Matthew 6:26.
The Bible clearly teaches that human beings have a superior value to animals because they were created in the image and likeness of God. This does not authorize mistreatment, but it establishes a correct order of creation. When Jesus uses the example of an animal in Matthew 12:12, He makes it clear that if it is already right to care for an animal, how much more so to care for a person. Consider what Psalm 8:6-7 says: “You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet: all flocks and herds, and the animals…”
