When Should I Stop Asking God for Something?
“And since we could not persuade him, we stopped, saying, ‘The will of the Lord be done.’” – Acts 21:14
The Bible shows us that insisting in prayer is not wrong, as long as our hearts remain submissive to the will of the Lord. Jesus taught us to persevere in prayer and not lose heart, as we read in Luke 18:1: “Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart.”
Many servants of God went through long periods of waiting and did not give up, even without understanding God’s timing. Abraham waited many years for the promise of a son, and the answer came at the right time. The Bible says in Hebrews 6:15: “And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.”
There comes a moment, however, when resting in God’s will is the greatest act of faith. Entrust your request to the Lord and trust Him. This was the case with Paul, who asked God to remove the thorn in the flesh but received a different answer. In 2 Corinthians 12:9 we read: “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” When we understand this, we learn that God’s answer—whether yes, no, or wait—always comes, and always comes at the right time.
