“Simão, Simão, Satanás pediu vocês para peneirá-los como trigo. Mas Eu orei por você, para que sua fé não desfaleça; e quando você se converter, fortaleça seus irmãos.” – Lucas 22:31–32
Como era feito com o trigo para separar o grão da palha, Satanás queria expor Pedro, fazê-lo cair e destruir sua fé e seu futuro ministério. Isso também ocorreu com Jó mas, com um propósito diferente.

Ele disse em Lucas 22:33 “Senhor, estou pronto para ir contigo até à prisão e até à morte!”. Mas não estava. A provação revelou sua fraqueza, não para destruí-lo, mas para libertá-lo da falsa autossuficiência.
- A segunda coisa é que Jesus já tinha garantido a restauração. Jesus não disse: “Se você voltar”. Ele disse: “Quando você se converter” — quando voltar, quando for restaurado.
Houve algum proveito, se Pedro negou Jesus três vezes?
Vejamos os frutos deste teste:

Why Did Jesus Allow Satan to Test the Apostle Peter?
“Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail; and when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” – Luke 22:31–32
Just as wheat was sifted to separate the grain from the chaff, Satan wanted to expose Peter, make him fall, and destroy his faith and future ministry. This also happened with Job, but for a different purpose.
Satan saw Peter as a strategic instrument for the Kingdom of God. Destroying him could hinder the growth of the church.
It is important to remember that Jesus did not “hand Peter over to evil”; He allowed the test with limits and protection, and made it clear when He said: “I have prayed for you.”
Why did this have to happen?
For two main reasons:
The first is that Peter needed to mature. Peter was impulsive, self-confident, emotional, courageous, yet immature. He said in Luke 22:33, “Lord, I am ready to go with You to prison and to death!” But he wasn’t. The trial revealed his weakness—not to destroy him, but to free him from false self-sufficiency.
The second reason is that Jesus had already guaranteed his restoration. Jesus did not say, “If you return.” He said, “When you turn back” — when you return, when you are restored.
Was there any benefit, since Peter denied Jesus three times?
Let’s see the fruits of this test:
Peter’s fall produced true humility. After denying Jesus, Peter wept bitterly. That pain produced a broken heart, different from the self-assured Peter.
It also produced mercy toward others. Jesus said, “… strengthen your brothers.” The experience of falling made Peter more compassionate, more understanding toward those who fail, and better prepared to shepherd with grace. This appears in his letters (1 Peter and 2 Peter), which are full of wisdom and firmness, but also empathy.
It also produced true courage. The man who denied Jesus before a servant girl became the preacher who faced the Sanhedrin and proclaimed Christ before multitudes, leading 3,000 to conversion in Acts 2.
Finally, it produced a testimony of restoration. This is one of the stories that comforts millions of Christians to this day.
Satan’s test revealed Peter’s weakness, but Jesus’ intercession revealed the power of grace. As 2 Corinthians 12:9 says, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will gladly boast in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
