“Então Jeosafá temeu, e pôs-se a buscar o Senhor, e apregoou jejum em todo o Judá.”. – 2ª Crônicas 20:3
O Rei Jeosafá ordenou um jejum ao povo e Deus acabou com todos os inimigos de Judá no dia seguinte. Como resultado disso Judá recolheu muitos despojos de guerra. Esta foi uma situação pontual em que o povo de Israel estava em guerra.
Não há problema em jejuar para buscar em Deus a saída ou escape para um problema que você não consegue resolver. Porém não devemos jejuar para conseguir mais posses. Veja como Deus orienta o povo que estava jejuando para conseguir vitória nas contendas por mais terras e gado em Isaías 58:6 e 7 “Porventura não é este o jejum que escolhi, soltar as correntes da injustiça, … pôr em liberdade os oprimidos … partilhar sua comida com o faminto … não recusar ajuda ao próximo?”.
Se algo está prejudicando sua vida jejue, ore, fale com Deus, abra mão do pecado e ajude o necessitado como orienta a bíblia. Mas não jejue buscando mais dinheiro ou mais bens. Veja o que diz em Tiago 4:3 “Pedis, e não recebeis, porque pedis mal, para o gastardes em vossos deleites.”.

How to Fast 4 of 7 — Can I Fast to Seek God’s Favor?
“Then Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.” — 2 Chronicles 20:3
King Jehoshaphat proclaimed a fast for the people, and God destroyed all the enemies of Judah the next day. As a result, Judah collected abundant spoils of war. This was a specific situation where the people of Israel were at war.
There is nothing wrong with fasting to seek God’s help or a way out of a problem you cannot solve. However, we should not fast in order to acquire more possessions. See how God instructed the people who were fasting to win disputes over more land and livestock in Isaiah 58:6–7:
“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice… to set the oppressed free… to share your food with the hungry… not to turn away from helping your neighbor?”
If something is harming your life, fast, pray, talk to God, give up sin, and help those in need as the Bible instructs. But do not fast seeking more money or more possessions. See what James 4:3 says:
“You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend it on your pleasures.”
