Is Bitcoin from God or from the Devil?
“For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil; some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” – 1 Timothy 6:10
Many Christians have wondered whether bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are instruments of God for financial freedom or if they are part of the evil plan revealed in the Bible about the end times. In Revelation 13 we read about a global control system, where no one can buy or sell without the mark of the beast. Thus, the technology of cryptocurrencies may become a tool for such a scenario, since everything in them depends on the digital medium and the validation of centralized or monitored systems.
The Word of God, however, warns us that the problem never lies solely in the instrument itself, but in the human heart. Bitcoin, like any currency, can be used for both good and evil. But if someone places their trust in accumulated wealth—whether in paper, gold, or cryptocurrency—they are already far from God’s purpose, which teaches us to store treasures in heaven and not on earth (Matthew 6:19–21).
The Christian is called to love their neighbor and help those in need. Proverbs 21:13 reminds us: “Whoever shuts their ears to the cry of the poor will also cry out and not be answered.” Therefore, if God gives you more than what you need to live, do not hoard out of fear or greed, but use your surplus to help those in need. Thus, any resource—whether bitcoin, physical currency, or another—can be a tool of blessing in your hands.
In summary, bitcoin is neither from God nor from the devil in its essence; what matters is how and for what it is used. The devil may use it to oppress and control, but God can even use this technology to sustain His children and aid the needy.
