Should Women Cover Their Heads in Worship?
“Therefore, a woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head, because of the angels.” – 1 Corinthians 11:10
The apostle Paul instructs women on the importance of using a visible sign of recognition of God’s authority. The veil represents respect for the order established by God; it has nothing to do with sexism or a woman’s subservience to man. The use of the veil indicates that the woman acknowledges and honors this divine order during the time when the church gathers.
When Paul mentions that this should be done “because of the angels,” he reminds us that angels are present and observing the worship offered to God. Thus, order and reverence in worship also serve as a testimony before these heavenly beings.
Paul’s exhortation reinforces that worship to God must be carried out with reverence, not only before people but also before heaven.
