Lemos na bíblia em Marcos 3:14
“E nomeou doze para que estivessem com ele e os mandasse a pregar, …”
Foram apenas 12 Apóstolos. Apenas 12 receberam e mantiveram este título dado exclusivamente por Cristo. Matias veio para substituir Judas Iscariotes após sua morte, ele não acrescentou um 13º Apóstolo, mas substituiu e, foi determinado por Cristo como vemos em Atos 1:24 “E, orando, disseram: Tu, Senhor, conhecedor dos corações de todos, mostra qual destes dois tens escolhido, …”.
Paulo reconhece em 1ª Coríntios 15:9 que não é digno de ser chamado de Apóstolo. Ninguém nega a importância de Paulo, nem de nenhum outro evangelista, nem naquela época nem atualmente. Realmente existem pessoas excepcionais e dignas de consideração, mas Apóstolos foram apenas 12.
Vejamos mais alguns indícios sobre o número 12 na bíblia. 1ª Coríntios 15:5 diz que Jesus, após ressuscitado foi visto pelos 12. Em marcos 3:14 diz que Jesus nomeou 12. Havia 12 patriarcas; das 12 tribos; 12 pedras preciosas no peitoral do sacerdote; 12 pedras foram tiradas do rio Jordão; a mulher traz uma coroa com 12 estrelas em apocalipse 12:1; por meio dos 12 Apóstolos o Senhor Jesus alimentou a multidão faminta; os 12 Apóstolos se assentarão em 12 tronos para julgar as 12 tribos; a nova Jerusalém terá 12 fundamentos para suas paredes com o nome dos 12 Apóstolos e terá 12 portões formados por 12 pérolas com o nome das 12 tribos inscritas, 12 anjos cuidarão das portas – apocalipse 21.

How Many Apostles Were There? 12, 13 or 14 After all?
We read in the bible in Mark 3:14
“And he appointed twelve to be with him and to send them out to preach…”
There were only 12 Apostles. Only 12 received and maintained this title given exclusively by Christ. Matthias came to replace Judas Iscariot after his death, he did not add a 13th Apostle, but replaced and, it was determined by Christ as we see in Acts 1:24 “And when they had prayed, they said, Thou, Lord, knowing the hearts of all, show which of these two have you chosen, …”.
Paul recognizes in 1 Corinthians 15:9 that he is not worthy to be called an Apostle. No one denies the importance of Paul, or of any other evangelist, either then or now. There really are exceptional people worthy of consideration, but there were only 12 Apostles.
Let’s look at some more clues about the number 12 in the bible. 1 Corinthians 15:5 says that Jesus, after being resurrected, was seen by the 12. In Mark 3:14 it says that Jesus named 12. There were 12 patriarchs; of the 12 tribes; 12 precious stones in the priest’s breastplate; 12 stones were taken from the Jordan River; the woman wears a crown with 12 stars in Revelation 12:1; through the 12 Apostles the Lord Jesus fed the hungry multitude; the 12 Apostles will sit on 12 thrones to judge the 12 tribes; the new Jerusalem will have 12 foundations for its walls with the name of the 12 Apostles and will have 12 gates formed by 12 pearls with the name of the 12 tribes inscribed, 12 angels will watch over the doors – Revelation 21.
